The Guernsey Power Station is a 1,875 megawatt, natural gas fired energy generation facility that produces electricity roughly equivalent to serve the power needs of approximately 1.4 million homes.
Guernsey Power Station is located in southern Guernsey County in Southeastern Ohio, in the heart of the state’s Utica and Marcellus shale gas development area.
Using state-of-the-art combined cycle technology and a dry (air) cooling system, Guernsey Power Station is a cost-efficient, fuel-efficient plant that protects air quality and conserves water. It also boosts the local economy through job creation and tax revenue for the local community and schools.
Guernsey Power Station was developed by a subsidiary of Caithness Energy, L.L.C. and Apex Power Group, LLC. Construction and operation of the facility is managed by subsidiaries of Caithness.
Caithness Energy, L.L.C. is an independent power producer engaged in the development of power plants from renewable energy and natural gas in the United States. Over the last 40 years, Caithness has successfully developed, operated and owned interests in more than 50 power projects across the United States using wind, geothermal, solar and natural gas. Caithness recently partnered with Moxie Energy LLC to develop the Caithness Moxie Freedom Generating Station in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, a 1,105 megawatt natural gas fired generating facility which reached commercial operations in 2018.
